Uluru & Central Deserts

Uluru to Alice Springs  - July - 5 day camping adventure in the Heartlands 

 Uluru, Kata Tjuta (Olgas), Kings Canyon, Gosse Bluff,  Hermannsburg Mission,  Stanley Chasm , Alice Springs

Includes introduction to Heartlands country by local Aboriginal custodian, experience the magic, mystery and visionary splendour of Albert Namatjira country in the West MacDonnell Ranges. Experience the power of Stanley Chasm. Enjoy the Garden of Eden sacred creation place on a Kings Canyon walk. Includes 3 nights at Yalara near Uluru/ Ayers Rock. Meet local Anangu custodians and experience sunset and sunrise walks and stillness at Uluru and Kata Tjuta, “Valley of the Winds” walk, plus free time to maximise personal experiences of Australia's heartlands in this ancient pristine world heritage area

Creators, Visionaries & Artists are especially invited on this journey. A daily “vision space” is available at special landscapes to connect & experience ”Spirit of Place”. 

Day 1 –  Meet at Ayers Rock/ Yulara campsite by 3 pm. Welcome to country by local custodian. Uluru introduction and witness Uluru sunset 

Day 2 –Uluru sunrise, and breakfast near Uluru. Visit Aboriginal cultural centre. Uluru base walk. Free time for personal & additional walks. Optional Sounds of Silence spectacular desert dinner. 

Day 3 – Sunrise at Kata Tjuta and morning walk in “Valley of the Winds”. Return to . evening campfire.   

Day 4 - Depart for Kings Canyon.  Experience the mighty Kings Canyon with a 3 hour walk.  Visit “Garden of Eden”, spectacular north and south walls.  Overnight camp. 

Day 5 – Depart early for Gosse Bluff mammoth meteorite crater, significant to Aboriginal custodians. Travel via Larapinta to Albert Namatjira country. Visit Namatjira exhibition at Hermannsburg Mission. On to Finke River, and ancient Palm Valley (time permitting) exotic plants & landscape & site of Namatjira’s art camp. Experience Stanley Chasm before Alice Springs for overnight. Days 6 end – free time. 

Your tour includes small group air conditioned travel,  twin share accommodation, 1 night in Alice Springs, 4 nights camping, (swag hire available) park entry fees, meals (except 1 dinner & day 8 meals own purchase).  Five percent of tour cost supports Aboriginal community projects. Kimberley Community & Festival

12 Day program – Depart Broome

Learn work & play with Aboriginal people rebuilding community on their traditional lands. Visit special Wandjina & Bradshaw (Gwion Gwion) art sites. This is an extraordinary opportunity to be with Aboriginal people, learning from their wisdom, recreating community & nature. An enriching & fulfilling experience.

 Experience incredible rock art galleries, with the elders - learn about Aboriginal Lore, men & women’s business, spirituality, bush medicines & food, language and history, ceremony, song & dance.

Day 1 - Depart from Broome, for Derby overland through Kimberley grasslands. Introduction to historic Prison Boab tree.  Travel on to mystical Windjana Gorge for evening gorge walk & overnight camp at this special creation place. Meet the crocodiles !    

Day 2 – Windjana Gorge - Early morning walk in this eerie, ancient seabed environment.  After breakfast travel to Tunnel Creek, and walk through this cave river system to a waterhole and Aboriginal rock paintings. After an optional swim in the waterhole, travel back to the Gibb River Rd to Mt Barnett and Manning Gorge via King Leopold Range, Queen Victoria Pass to our campsite. 

Day 2 – Windjana Gorge - Early morning walk in this eerie, ancient seabed environment.  After breakfast travel to Tunnel Creek, and walk through this cave river system to a waterhole and Aboriginal rock paintings. After an optional swim in the waterhole, travel back to the Gibb River Rd to Mt Barnett and Manning Gorge via King Leopold Range, Queen Victoria Pass to our campsite.

 Day 3 – Bush walk to Manning Gorge waterfall and swim hole before departure via Kulumburu Rd to Drysdale cattle station and on to Murunbabidi campsite. Meet Ngarinyin Aboriginal community & Bush University elders before a relaxing meal and settle in to community.

 Day 4–6  Share the dreamtime with Bush University elders and learn of issues of country, kids and community work.  Your personal interests and capabilities welcome. Involvement with Eden Project and supporting kids co-cultural development appreciated. Afternoon visit and picnic lunch at significant Wandjina and Bradshaw/Gwion Gwion art sites.  Return to camp, for meal and campfire. 

Day 7 – Morning with Ngarinyin then travel to our Mitchell Plateau camp, passing through spectacular vegetation including pandanas palms.  

Day 8 – Bush walk to Mitchell Falls via spectacular pools & waterfalls. View art sites and swim in these beautiful clear fresh waters. Thrill with a spectacular helicopter ride over the falls. This is one of the most remote areas of Australia.  Overnight on Mitchell Plateau at King Edward River camp.

Day 9 – Head down the Kulumburru Rd to Mt Barnett & Manning River camp. Visit Aboriginal communities en route

 Day 10 – July 6 - Arrive to camp at Derby and attend the 2 days of Mowunjum Festival at Mowunjum Aboriginal community. Celebration of community art, dance, contemporary and traditional culture. 

Day 11 – July 7 - Mowunjum Festival (& Boab Festival evening events) continue.  Day free time also available for alternative activities eg swim & shop in Broome, local history tour, Aboriginal community issues

 Day 12 – Tour ends after breakfast in Derby (Broome option available)

Mowunjum Festival Options – Arrive June 6 - spend 2 nights (6 & 7) in camp in Derby for the Festival prior to trip departure on 8 July. Broome Pickup 6 July available if prearranged.

 Day 5 - Travel the scenic and spectacular Gibb River Road via  Cockburn Range, fording the Pentecost River,  to El Questro station for welcome hot showers and taste of the rich life. Overnight at El Questro.   

 Day 6 - Relax with a swim in the Zee Bee Dee hot springs, then enjoy a morning walk to Emma Gorge sacred waterhole before traveling onward through spectacular mountain landscapes toward the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park) Overnight at Turkey Creek.

 Day 7 Enter the Bungle Bungles and marvel at this amazing orange & black striped beehive landscape formed by giant river systems. Walk to the spectacular Cathedral cave.  Optional Scenic flights available. Overnight camp at Bungle Bungles

 Day 8 – Another walk in the Bungles – Echidna Gorge is calling.- before after lunch depart for Halls Creek & Fitzroy Crossing

 Day 9 – At Fitzroy Crossing, take the Geike Gorge cruise with the crocodiles on the mighty Fitzroy River. See the old rainmaker in the river & learn his story. Walk in this fascinating Devonian reef landscape. Travel on to Broome for overnight & relaxing ocean swim.

 Day 10 – Tours completes after breakfast July 17 in Broome. 

 You  may want to consider additional time for volunteering in community or extended trips to Kakadu or Across Australia from Sydney to Broome !
